| Capital punishment is a fit response to certain heinous crimes and should be as swift and certain as we can constitutionally make it. If drug abusers can be treated to get off drugs and quit committing other crimes, that is something I support. However, I also support harsh sentences for those who don't get with the program and who keep hurting innocent people. Illegal aliens cause huge problems and state and local law enforcement need to be able to act to keep North Carolina safe since the federal government is derelict in its duties to do so. | |||

| The best financial incentive is to have a pleasant state with low taxes and reasonable public services. We have that and we need to make it better. However, government doling out money for "economic development" is generally misguided. (See Randy Parton Theater) Low taxes, good schools, good roads, and good public services are all that is needed for growth. Welfare for able bodied adults should be eliminated forthwith, but until that happens, drug testing should occur for welfare recipients along with mandatory work to get taxpayer money. Employers should not have to hire criminals. | |||

| Common Core is a bad idea for any number of reasons. Teachers need to be paid more for good performance and less for sub-par performance. Tenure is a bad idea for any job, as it protects the lazy and unmotivated. School choice should exist to let students opt out of bad school situations and go where they may actually learn something. Subsidizing the UNC System like we do should continue, but we should be selective and only help those who actually will be likely to benefit from an education, and not those who will not. | |||

| The State needs to allow private business to use and create whatever energy sources make the most sense. There should not be regulation of this. We need to lower energy bills for our citizens by repealing the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS) law. State parks are part of our natural treasures in NC, but we must be judicious in spending for new land for them, as not every tree, blade of grass, or snail is something special that needs to be saved from private use of the property. | |||

| Free people need to be able to defend themselves from criminal attack, and concealed handguns a are a good way to enable people to do this. Gun control legislation is ineffective at preventing criminals from getting guns. (See heyjackass.com for how well tough gun control is working in Chicago.) Effective enforcement of existing gun laws (felons possessing firearms, for instance) along with harsh sentencing for offenders of this is needed. I teach NC Concealed Handgun Permit classes to decent folks of all political parties and will continue to do so. | |||

| We need tort reform to decrease costs of malpractice insurance. The only thing government intervention in the insurance market has done is increase prices. The federal and state government need to quit interfering in the private health insurance markets (or what is left of them) and allow willing buyers to buy whatever insurance they want from willing sellers. The state has a role on regulating insurance companies, but only to protect our citizens from fraud or other wrongdoing. | |||

However, the State should not should it promote sinful behavior nor should it force people to associate with those who they do not want to associate with. People should use the bathroom of what gender they were born with unless they get it changed to the point where they could get their birth certificate changed in public buildings. Owners should determine whatever their rules should be for private buildings. | |||
